Get to know your Travel Agent with this short Q & A as featured in
'Travel Bulletin Magazine' from September 2009

Q: How long have you worked in the travel industry?

A: I've been in travel for 37 years since leaving school. My career started at Frames Tours followed by Lunn Poly then Hays Homeworking for 8 years. Finally i joined Hays Independence Group in 2009.

Q: What is a typical day like?

A: Being a homeworker each day varies. Some days i may have enquiries from the night before and some days i just have to wait for the phone to ring! I am able to concentrate on bookings as all admin is done at head office.

Q: What does your job involve?

A: It mainly involves taking enquiries and then finding the right holiday, whether it is a package, short-haul, tailormade or something more complicated like a round-the-world itinery.

Q: What are the best and worst things about your job?

A: I love it when someone gives you what seems to be an unachievable task but you manage to get it sorted. I hate it when things go wrong that are out of your control like hotels overbooking.

Q: What has been the most interesting holiday that you have booked?

A: I have a couple who regularly book and as they are naturists, i have to find beaches suitable for them. Having worked in the business for so many years, i now know that we all want something different from our holidays!

Q: What is your favourite city?

A: Rome.

Q: Which TV programme would you choose to go on and why?

A: Shipwrecked - How lovely would it be to get away from everyday life for a couple of months?! No bills to pay and lots of sun, sea, sand and tranquility.

Q: What is your nightmare customer type?

A: The person wanting a £99 bargain on a bank holiday.

Q: What area of specialisation would you like to develop?

A: Long-haul definitely. I Love bookings that i can really get my teeth into.
